About the Opportunity

Currently, Solid Rock Steel is looking for a General Manager to join our team on a full-time basis, overseeing day-to-day operations in our office in Surrey, BC.

As our new General Manager, you will be a key decision maker in managing the organization's business strategies and overall growth objectives. You will be working with a team of project managers, detailers, shop fabricators, and field erectors, to enhance the organization's image by implementing best practices.

More specifically, your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing inspired leadership to support the company's mission, vision, and values
  • Promoting the company's culture that encourages top performance and high morale
  • Overseeing and accounting for daily business activities and operations
  • Improving administration processes, formulating policies, and coordinating business operations
  • Approving and hiring of employees, supporting staff development, and ensuring training of employees
  • Performing annual employee performance and salary reviews
  • Coordinating technical guidance to engineering and detailing teams, project managers, and top management
  • Reviewing project budget proposals and project plans (risk assessment, schedule, etc.) 
  • Monitoring the performance of multiple ‘project teams’
  • Leading regularly scheduled production meetings
  • Reviewing & monitoring project Change Orders
  • Driving the revenue goals while efficiently managing operational costs
  • Analyzing accounting and financial data by consulting on ways to improve cost-efficiency (value engineering, capacity restrictions, etc.)
  • Researching and identifying business growth opportunities
  • Maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as clients, engineers, architects, and staff
  • Generating reports and giving presentations

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must have at least 10 years experience in steel fabricating or steel construction, with at least 5 years experience in a direct construction supervisory role

Candidates with Business Management or MBA is a preferred asset, but not required. You may spend 5% of your time as our new General Manager on site visits and client meetings in the lower mainland, so you must have a valid driver's license to perform these duties.
